I just had a massage and I can’t help but get these thoughts out.
This stuff works. It’s good. It doesn’t necessarily matter the modality or any of that. It’s so much more simple. It’s about kindness. It’s about changing perspective. Connection to the body. Connection to the present moment. Feeling good. It’s so easy.
Here’s how it goes: You schedule some time with the therapist of your choice. This time is now yours. You can choose an hour. 75 minutes. 90 minutes. You can choose to have a salt glow. You can choose to concentrate a half an hour to releasing tension from the shoulders up. It’s your choice. It’s your time. Feet hurt? Focus there. You buy this time for a qualified professional to pay attention only to you, pay attention to easing your pain, while you close your eyes, breathe deeply and that’s all. You do not have to talk. It’s your time. It’s your choice. If you would rather talk, that is good too. This is your time. The environment is safe and supportive and clean and comfortable. You lay there on the table and you breathe. How often do you feel what that feels like? Interesting feeling. You change from that alone. Those first breaths settling into the table, anticipating your time you gave to yourself for your muscles to relax, you’re already different. Then some opening strokes, some compression. Already that thing gnawing at your head on the way to the appointment is quieter. Then oil, and the strange ambient music starts to make sense. Now you’ve dropped down into yourself and that feels so good. Wow, how did you forget about that feeling? There you are and the work goes deeper and more muscles relax and the ones not yet worked on can hardly wait. and the mind goes in and out. and the music is heard. and then not. and then heard. and there is peace. there goes that muscle tension there. Once in a while there is emotion, a sadness wrapped up in some tension. Feel that. How nice to get it out of there. There goes that muscle there, how about that? Didn’t even know it was tight! That is so nice. And then it ends and you are left on the table to soak it in for a moment or more. What was that? It feels different. Things seem softer. Mind is slower. Body is easier. That’s all it is. That’s a massage. We can talk about the evidence. Do we need to? It is so easy to feel good. It is so affordable. It’s so important.
There are some side effects that may happen. You may feel thirsty. Good, drink lots of water. You may want only to sit in your favorite seat and do nothing but notice how your body feels. That is good too, as often said by a favorite teacher of mine, “we are not human doings, we are human beings.” You may feel sleepy. You may be a busy person with no time for that, but on your way to your things you notice the visual splendor of this world just a little more than usual. You don’t seem to mind that there are other drivers on the road. Life seems easier. Your relaxed muscles allow you to breathe more deeply. For this moment and for a few days your body thanks you. That’s all. Feeling good. Easy as that. Add Comment
